June 2015

This month has had its ups & downs.  We had to say goodbye to my parent’s dog, Abbey.  She had just gotten too old and was struggling on a lot of fronts.  It was a hard decision, but the dog had a really good life.  I thought I’d be OK, but I soon found out I wasn’t.  It was much tougher than I thought it’d be and was even more difficult when we told Addy.  She was very sad and was concerned with Shelly and my parents.  I thought it was so sweet that at 3 she was thinking of others.  Addy asked many questions about death, heaven and god and I think we answered everything well.  She was concerned about Brinkley after the fact.  She wanted to make sure she wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.  Thinking about that day with Brinkley is already ridiculously hard to think about so hopefully we have years & years & years until that!  On to happier things!!

Summer has set in and it has been hot & humid.  Addy has refused to wear anything other than a dress for at least a month and a half now.  I bought her some new dresses, but we got a boat load of hand me downs from a friend.  Addy is in dress heaven!  Addy started taking swim lessons and she has become part fish.  She loves the water and I’m shocked at how quickly she became acquainted with the water.  It’s fun to watch her learn things, but she thinks she can swim when she really can’t.  There is a waterslide at my parent’s pool and she really wants to go down it.  However, you are only allowed to go down when you can swim the length of the pool.  I guess this is something we will have to work towards!  Other than that, nothing new, just hanging out with friends and enjoying the beautiful weather!

May 2015

It has been a long couple of weeks!  We made a trip up to NY because we hadn't been in awhile and crammed so many things into 4 1/2 days.  We were able to meet up with lots of family & friends and Addy had a great time hanging out with lots of kids!  We split the trip up into 2 days.  We left after work on Wednesday, stayed in a hotel for the night and woke up and drove the rest of the 4 hours on Thursday morning.  The trip back was much longer and done in one day.  About 4 hours away from home, Addy got sick.  I was able to contain most of it, but I felt so bad for her!  We had to make a quick pit stop to clean her off, change her clothes and regroup.  She seemed fine after that so she may have just gotten car sick or the events of our trip just finally caught up to her.  She definitely didn't get the sleep she needed while we were there and she played hard.
The weather in NC is hot and we have been able to hit up the pool a few times already.  Addy seems to love being in the pool, so we decided to try swim lessons yet again.  I signed her up for some private lessons in the hope that she'll catch on quick. Other then that, nothing exciting has been going on!

April 2015

Lots of fun things this past month.  We celebrated Justin’s birthday, Shelly’s 25th birthday, Easter and the arrival of Shelly’s new puppy.  Addy had a great time looking for her Easter basket and was so happy when she found it.  We have been eating jelly beans ALL month long and thankfully they are almost gone.  The Easter bunny visited our house & my parents’ house.  Her favorite gifts seem to be the Cinderella Barbie doll and Puppy Surprise.  Scout finally arrived in NC and Addy has a love/hate relationship with her.  Most of the time, she loves her and just wants to be close to her or holding her BUT Scout is a puppy and likes to play which Addy doesn’t get.  When Addy runs, Scout wants to chase her and then Addy wants to be picked up so she can’t jump on her.  It’s actually pretty funny to watch and hopefully Addy will soon realize she can’t tease the puppy!

Addy Conversations:
~while driving in the car~
Addy: Mom please get me some lipstick
Me: I’m driving and I can’t reach it at the moment
Addy: Pull the car over, get out, get the lipstick and THEN you can drive again
Me: ummm no…..

~While asking her not to grab my phone out of my hands~
Me: ADDY, DON’T DO THAT!!
Addy: Don’t talk to me that way

~Potty chat~
Me: Addy, are you ever going to poop on the potty?
Addy: I will when I’m bigger….when I turn 4
~Anytime we walk into my parents’ house~
Addy: Abbey is old

~Just chatting~
Me: Want to go to Grandma & Guppy’s after school?
Addy: Will Scout be there?

~Getting ready for bed one night~
Me: Please stand still and stop jumping around!! (while yelling)
Addy: Throws herself on my bed and starts crying and says, “you don’t love me!”

Me: ………….

March 2015

I totally forgot to mention that we bought Addison a new big girl bed in January!  She was getting way too big for her crib setup and was constantly falling out.  We bought her a Twin sized bed on a random Friday night.  My parents went with Addy & I to the bed store, my dad as the babysitter, my mom as the haggler helper.  We got home with our new bed the same time Justin got home from work.  The four of us together worked quickly and removed the old crib furniture & mattress and got her new bed in and made up in no time.  She was really excited to finally move up in the world.  She’s been doing a lot better at staying in her bed the whole night, but we are nowhere near her being in their all the time.  She is a light sleeper, seems to have some wacky dreams and tosses & turns a lot.

The weather has started to turn and we've had some really nice days.  Justin, Addy & I went to buy a new bird feeder to welcome the good weather.  She excited to see some birds, but no such luck yet!  Perhaps it’s because she is always touching the bird feeder or the fact that she yells out “come get your food, birds”!  Anyways, hoping the weather stays nice and we have some bird visitors…such an exciting life!!

January/February 2015

Time has been flying by!  Towards the middle of January Addison got pink eye.  I knew right when she woke up something was off and I had a feeling it was pink eye.  I knew if I sent her to school, they’d send her right back home with me, so I made an appointment with her doctor and sure enough, PINK EYE!  Lots of hand washing and eye drops made her as good as new in 24 hours.  Next up, we celebrated Guppy’s birthday.  It was pretty uneventful, but Addy sure loves singing Happy Birthday.  The next fun thing we had planned was a get together for the Super Bowl.  We knew we were only going to stay out for the 1st half of the game because we didn't want Addy getting to bed too late and starting off the week rocky.  On the short 15 minute drive home, Addy started acting super cranky and said her stomach hurt.  By the time we got home, she had spiked a fever and was completely needy.  She sat on my lap for about an hour and watched Katy Perry on the halftime show.  She liked the singing and dancing, but you could tell she wasn't herself.  After the halftime show, we headed up to bed, but she still said her stomach hurt and she was so warm.  We decided to let her stay in bed with me hoping the night would go smoothly.  10:30 pm, bath.  She was so hot and I wanted to bring her fever down.  It seemed to cheer her up a bit, but she still looked awful.  11:30 pm, vomiting.  At this point, I knew she wasn't going to school the next day, so we just cuddled and I cross my finger it would pass quickly.  The next morning, my dad mentioned that we always got sick when we had strep (which I have no idea how he remembers this!), but I decided to check her throat.  Her tonsils were HUGE!  I saw no white spots, but she was talking funny because they were so enlarged.  I made a doctor appointment and sure enough strep throat!  Addy & I stayed home for 3 days and she was miserable.  The poor kid didn't want to eat, didn't want to move and just wanted to watch TV or sleep.  At one point, she thought she felt better and wanted to put on a princess dress, but just as quickly took it off and changed her mind.  While sick with strep, we celebrated Gannon’s birthday.  More singing which made Addy happy briefly!  The poor thing didn't even want to eat some cake!
In February Shelly took Addison for her first manicure.  She was so excited to get her nails painted and did really well.  The woman who did her nails was very sweet with her and she really had a good time.
Next up was a visit from Justin’s parents.  They got into town on a Saturday hoping for some nice weather.  While they were here, the temperatures got really cold and we had a lovely ice storm!  They just couldn't get away from the winter weather!  They had to spend much of their time indoors, but Addy loved having them all to herself for the week.  She even got to go to a movie with them in the theater!  She had a great time, but as always was super sad when they had to head back home.  The following week, we had more winter weather, but this time we got snow!  Justin & I took her to my parent’s house on one of our snow days.  We took her outback to build a snowman and go sledding, but she wanted nothing to do with the sled.  She helped Justin build a snowman, but then was totally over it.  Lots of layers for a 20 minute trip outside!
Lately, Addison has become obsessed with hair bows & headbands.  She wants to wear them (whether they match or not) all the time.  Her newest thing to do is rhyme.  Just the other night she was running around in circles yelling, “Cat, Bat, Hat”…”Dad, Mad, Bad”.  It was interesting to say the least.

That’s all I can think of at the moment, next up is a trip from Uncle Adam and Easter!

January 2015

Christmas & New Years have come and gone!  The holidays were over in the blink of an eye.  Addison was spoiled rotten by Santa and both sets of grandparents!  We were supposed to head to Christmas Eve Mass with my parents, but Addison had different thoughts.  We had to take her to the walk-in (second Christmas in a row!).  She had some wax build-up in her ear and a low grade fever, so nothing horrible, but she was cranky none-the-less. She wasn't really getting into the Christmas spirit at my parents, so we packed it in early in the hopes she'd feel better in the morning.  Thankfully, she slept in and woke up with BIG smiles.  She knew Santa had come and was super excited to get down to the tree.  My parents and Shelly came over and were able to watch her open her gifts as well.
Later that day, Amanda & Ian came into town and we celebrated with everyone.  It was a really nice Christmas!  A couple days later, Justin's parents drove down to spend the week with us.  Once again, Addison was inundated with gifts!  It was so nice to have Justin's parents for the week.  Addy stayed home from school to hang with them and play with all her new stuff.
NYE we just hung out with Justin's parents, I was shocked I made it til midnight!
