August 2016

August was such a long, busy month!

Week 18, Baby #2

My doctor's appointment went well yesterday.  Everything looked good and nothing too exciting to report.  They were unable to view one side of her heart due the gestational age, so they'll have me back in 2 weeks to get a better view/picture.
Here are a couple pictures from the appointment -

Addison loves looking at the pictures and even brought them to school today!  I'm hoping those little ones don't ask too many questions!
I should start feeling flutters/kicks about now.  I've felt some movement, but still very light.  Many of the bones in the baby's body are starting to harden.  Among the first bones to develop is the inner ear which is part of the reason why the baby might be able to hear sounds such as my heart beating or my tummy growling!

Week 17, Baby #2

This week the baby has mastered some simple reflexes such as swallowing, sucking and blinking.  Fat is also forming underneath the baby's skin and will continue to do so in the later months of my pregnancy. This will help prepare the baby for the temperature change from inside my womb to the outside world.  The baby's size is said to be about the size of an onion.
I feel like I have felt some movement in the past few days, but I can't be sure.  I don't have a "side" picture for this week because we were at the beach with the family and I didn't think about it!
I have an appointment on Tuesday August 30th, so hope to be back with an update!

Week 16, Baby #2

This week, the baby is said to be the size of an avocado, weighing in around 3.5 oz. This week the baby's limbs are much more developed, legs and arms are longer and are becoming more controlled in movement.  The baby's skeletal system is developing more as calcium is deposited onto the bones. Over the next couple of weeks the baby's weight will double.
The past week has had its ups & downs.  The moment I think I have moved past feeling crummy, I will have a gagging episode!  We were running errands this weekend and I had to haul ass to the bathroom to get sick!  It's so not fun!  My brain is continually playing games with me.  I wish I could just relax and enjoy being pregnant, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards for me.  I constantly worry that everything is "good" in there.  I'm hoping that within the next few weeks, I'll start to feel some movement and that my ease my brain a bit.  We head to the beach on Saturday with the whole family, so hopefully that'll help me relax.
Addy continues to talk about the baby and kiss & rub my belly at every turn.  It is so sweet and I hope she remembers that love when the new baby arrives!

Week 15, Baby #2

It seems so weird to be back to writing weekly updates.  I have definitely "popped" and will need to get a picture soon.  This week, my little Baby Bump app is telling me that the baby is the size of a lemon (3.4 inches).  I still am getting nauseous here and there.  Every time I think I am over that hump, I have a spell of heaving!  At least at this point Addison knows what is going on and she'll ask me, "Is the baby making you sick?"....why yes, yes she is!
By the end of the day, I am officially exhausted and have climbed into bed by 9 pm.  I have been super fun!  Our next appointment isn't until August 30th.  At that appointment, we will have the anatomy scan.  I think we will have Addison come with us as well to experience it.  I am sure many many questions will come from it, but I really think she'll like it!!

August - Special Bulletin

I need to backup to the month of May when we received some very exciting news!  On May 20th, I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive!!  I was in shock.  We had been trying for what seemed like forever and we finally got the result we were hoping for!  While we were beyond excited, I was also very scared.  After having a miscarriage in 2013, I feel like this time around, I am walking on pins & needles.  We went about life, not really talking about having a baby, but more like trying to push through and get to that 12 week mark where I'd feel slightly more "safe".  I was sick off & on, but nothing too horrible.  I had a little scare the week before my birthday, so we went in to the doctors office where we saw our babies heart beat for the first time.  I cried before the ultrasound started and proceeded to cry through it!  I was just so nervous and afraid.  We have since been to the doctor's several times and have heard the babies heart beat each time.  Each time it is a huge relief.  I won't lie, I still feel like I am holding my breathe, but I am not as nervous.  We did blood work on July 11th to rule out Downs Syndrome, Trisomy 18 & 13.  It took EXACTLY 15 business days to receive our results, but everything came back within normal limits.  Another box checked off the list to ease my nerves.  Along with these tests results, we learned we are expecting a little GIRL!  We had been so anxious to fill Addy in on the news and we knew it was finally time.  Monday, August 1st we gave Addy a gift.  The gift was a shirt that said "Best Big Sis".  She was slightly confused at first and thought we got the shirt for Brinkley, but Justin explained to her what it meant and the look on her face was priceless.  She was soo happy and excited!  We then let her open up the letter that said if the baby was a boy or girl.  Again, so much excitement from everyone. Addy immediately wanted to feel my stomach, hug & kiss it as well.  I really think she'll be an excellent, helpful, sweet, caring older sister.  We've explained to Addy that there are lots of important things to get through before the baby comes, such as, her birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I think she gets it for the most part, but the child asks 1,000 questions a day!

July 2016

It has been a crazy few months.  We celebrated July 4th with friends and family.  We headed to our favorite spot on the 1st hole of the golf course and enjoyed fireworks, glow sticks & poppers.
Next up, on July 6, 2016 Amanda gave birth to little Emilia Robinson.  She was born via c-section at around 8 am and my parents, Michelle, Addison & I were all waiting patiently to be introduced to the newest member of the family.  Originally we didn't think Addy would be allowed in the maternity section to meet the baby, but we were pleasantly surprised that she could indeed join us.  She was so snuggly with her mommy and everyone did great!  We took pictures with Emilia and I got to hold her a tiny bit.  Michelle, Addy & I headed back to Raleigh shortly after her birth.  We are counting down the days until we can see her on vacation in August.
Justin had a fun weekend at the end of July.  He had his fantasy football draft and was also able to visit the White House and get a special tour.  The boys had an amazing weekend and Addy & I were just a little jealous!
